The railway operates a variety of live steam and petrol/diesel powered locomotives. The train journey is scenic and set in natural bushland. The two kilometre track goes over bridges, through two tunnels, up and down slight rises and descents, through the middle track of the main station for a second smaller loop.
It is run by volunteers and operates on almost every Sunday of the year, most public holidays and on Wednesdays during school holidays. The fare is AU$3.00 and one complete mainline journey takes about 12 minutes. It is a popular tourist attraction and carries over 100,000 passengers a year
