The Daintree is the habitat of an extensive array of wildlife many of which are endemic to this eco system only. This is also the habitat of the estuarine or saltwater crocodile seen regularly on our cruises, also look out for other reptiles, rare birds, flying foxes and beautiful butterflies. The Daintree Rainforest is a living museum of flora and fauna dating back 250 million years. There are close to 200 species of plants which only grow in the Wet Tropics, of which about 170 have been found north of the Daintree River, with perhaps 30 of them growing only in the Daintree and nowhere else in the world.
