The Bellarine Railway is all about heritage steam trains. We have a current fleet of 11 locomotives, and a number of these are operational at any one time. You could have the opportunity to ride behind locomotives from each Australian state, and sometimes in unique combinations such as a Tasmanian locomotive, teamed with a Western Australian locomotive hauling a train of heritage carriages from Tasmania and Queensland.

Variety and experience is what we provide, and importantly for you, a great day out.

It is difficult to maintain all locomotives in working order and the costs associated with maintaining a fleet of this size are high. Over 60% of our ticket revenue is ploughed straight back into maintaining our infrastructure and vehicle fleet. So if your favourite locomotive is not available on your current visit, it possibly will be when you join us again.

Sit back in the comfortable leather seats as the train traverses rural farmland on its way from Drysdale to Queenscliff and skirts the foreshore around Swan Bay during the 16 km trip.

The Heritage Service is available on Sundays, most public holidays, as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school holidays. Extra running days are available of the summer holidays. Motive power (steam/diesel) cannot be guaranteed

Please note our Heritage Service does not apply on Day Out With Thomas, Santa Train or Queenscliff Music Festival weekends

Carriage hire is available as part of the Heritage Service and perfect for children’s parties or groups looking for the benefits of private train hire without the added cost – bookings are essential.
